Jolly Phonics – What is it? Introductory Lecture: Ref 201010
Provides an overview of the Jolly Phonics Program: how it is taught, research results, parent input, & expected levels of achievement at each level. It makes no attempt to teach people how to use the program.
For parents, teachers and paraprofessionals.
To learn how to use the program, there are three practical sessions offered.

Session 1: Jolly Phonics – How to get started? Hands-on (2½ hours) Ref 231010am
Prerequisite: Jolly Phonics – What is it? A practical look at how to introduce the main 42 sounds of English in a student’s first term at school. Includes: lesson plans, programming and assessment; a look at available commercial aids; how to make/download resources; get both continuity and variety into lessons; use computers/IWB to help. All participants provided with a CD of free resources.

A very practical look at how to continue with Jolly Phonics for the rest of the reception year. How to
• Develop reading and writing skills
• Introduce alternative spellings
• Manage progressive intakes of new students
• Design lessons for students at different stages of development
• Use computers or IWBs as an integral part of the program
Includes lesson plans, making your own aids, a look at available commercial materials, free downloads. All participants provided with a CD of free resources.

Understanding learning Disabilities:
HOW DIFFICULT CAN THIS BE? The F.A.T. City Workshop
For kids with learning disabilities, the classroom can be an intimidating place. In this DVD, Richard Lavoie shows why. He leads a group of parents, educators, psychologists, and children through a series of exercises that cause Frustration, Anxiety and Tension...feelings all too familiar to children with learning difficulties.
The screening will be followed by a ten minute discussion for those who wish to stay.
For anyone looking for an insight into the world of the learning disabled child.
