Jolly Music Demonstation: Ref 131012
The session will comprise a brief introduction to the Kodály approach, Cyrilla’s background and educational experiences, and Jolly Music.
This will be followed by a practical session focusing on work with the 4-11 age range, helping participants to build a bank of songs and rhymes and enabling them to understand ways of teaching musical knowledge and skills to this age group in an enjoyable, satisfying and pedagogically sound way.

Session 1: Jolly Phonics – How to get started? Hands-on (2½ hours) Ref 201012am
A practical look at how to introduce the main 42 sounds of English in a student’s first term at school. Includes: lesson plans, programming and assessment; a look at available commercial aids; how to make/download resources; get both continuity and variety into lessons; use computers/IWB to help. A very practical look at how to continue with Jolly Phonics for the rest of the reception year. How to
• Develop reading and writing skills
• Introduce alternative spellings
• Manage progressive intakes of new students
• Design lessons for students at different stages of development
• Use computers or IWBs as an integral part of the program

Looks at the second and third years of school and how to teach reading, writing and spelling skills using the Jolly Phonics Handbook and Jolly Grammar Books 1 and 2. A very practical approach focussing on what to teach; how to teach it; programming; assessment; group and individual teaching; how to add variety and interaction; keeping students engaged and on task.
